Meet Our Social Security Disability Attorneys
James H. Greeman – A nationwide leading Social Security disability attorney, James was admitted to the Minnesota Bar in 1995 and to the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota in April, 2001.
James is a graduate of Hamline University, and he obtained his Juris Doctor from Hamline University School of Law. James has practiced exclusively in Social Security disability law throughout his 18-year legal career. He has personally represented more individuals in their disability claims than any other attorney licensed and practicing in Minnesota. During those 18 years, he has either represented or worked on disability claims for more than 60,000 people throughout the country and at all levels of the administrative process and in United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. Early in his career he made a commitment to representing the less fortunate members of our community. James has also represented disabled children, indigent and homeless claimants, those applying for SSI and the mentally ill.
James received recognition in 1999, 2000 and 2001 when he was named a “Super Lawyer” by Law and Politics, Twin Cities Business Monthly and Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine, a distinction fewer than 5% of all Minnesota attorneys receive. He was also recognized when named by his peers in these same publications in 2001 as a “Rising Star” in the legal profession.
James lives in Apple Valley, Minnesota with his wife Carol and two children.
Patrick A. Toomey - Prior to beginning his legal education, Patrick served four years in the United States Marine Corps. During law school he served with the United States Army Reserve in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is a graduate of Hamline University, where he completed his B.A. in Legal Studies and obtained his Juris Doctor from Hamline University School of Law, receiving the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in the study of Conflicts of Law. In addition, Patrick obtained his LL.M. in International Commercial Law from the University of Nottingham, England.
Patrick Toomey practices exclusively in the area of Social Security disability law and has represented thousands of clients at all levels from initial filing through civil actions before the U.S. District Court. Patrick has practiced Social Security disability law since graduating from law school in 2002.
Patrick is licensed in the State of New York and is a member of the New York State Bar Association, American Bar Association and National Organization of Social Security Claimants Representatives.
Patrick lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with his wife Sonia and their two children. He enjoys fly-fishing, mountain biking, and camping in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area of Northern Minnesota.
Jason R. Emery - Jason joined Greeman Toomey in the summer of 2009. He obtained his B.A. in Psychology from the University of St. Thomas and his Juris Doctor from the University of St. Thomas School of Law. Jason is admitted to the Minnesota Bar and to the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota.
While in law school Jason worked in the Minneapolis Department of Civil Rights where he investigated allegations of discrimination and also in the law school’s legal clinic as a certified student attorney working in the field of Immigration. These experiences provided him with a strong foundation of compassion for individuals who are engaged in significant struggles and require legal assistance.
Prior to joining Greeman Toomey Jason assisted in the representation of hundreds of individuals seeking Social Security disability benefits and/or Supplemental Security Income by drafting legal briefs and memoranda advocating their positions. Since joining Greeman Toomey Jason has worked on disability claims at all levels of the process including civil actions before the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota and has personally represented hundreds of individuals at hearings before Administrative Law Judges. Additionally, he serves on the Governance Council of the Social Security Disability Law Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association.
Jason lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota with his wife Jess who teaches English as a second language at a local high school. In his free time, Jason enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Daniel T. Yates – Daniel is an associate attorney with Greeman Toomey, PLLC. He is admitted to the Minnesota Bar and practices exclusively in the area of Social Security disability law.
Daniel is a graduate of Indiana University and received his Juris Doctor from Hamline University School of Law. Prior to joining Greeman Toomey, Daniel served as a certified student attorney at the Minnesota State Public Defender’s Office and the Ramsey County Public Defender’s Office. As a certified student attorney he represented hundreds of clients from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. His experience includes advocating on behalf of indigent clients in district court proceedings, administrative hearings and before the Minnesota Court of Appeals. Daniel also spent a summer during law school at a law firm in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where he worked to ensure that disabled children received the fair and equal education to which they are entitled.
Daniel lives in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
Ryan J. Miner – Ryan is an associate attorney with Greeman Toomey, PLLC. He is admitted to practice law in Minnesota and he practices exclusively in the area of Social Security disability law.
Ryan graduated summa cum laude from Herzing University with a degree in Information Technology and received his Juris Doctor from Hamline University School of Law. During law school, Ryan worked as a judicial extern with two district court judges, provided volunteer legal services through the Minnesota Justice Foundation to low income individuals, and served as a student member of the Minnesota Justice Foundation’s board of directors. His volunteer experiences in law school gave Ryan a strong desire to help others secure their rights.
Before joining Greeman Toomey, Ryan served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Judge Mark M. Starr and assisted in the adjudication of a variety of cases, including employment and forfeiture related matters. Ryan also provided research assistance to fellow attorneys and pro se litigants as a Reference Staff Attorney at Thomson Reuters. These prior positions exposed Ryan to a wide range of claims found in our legal system.
Ryan lives in St. Paul, Minnesota with his wife, their Irish Wolfhound, and two cats. In his free time, Ryan enjoys reading, board games, and spending time with his friends and family.
Dori Leland - Dori is an associate attorney at Greeman Toomey, PLLC. She serves on the Governance Council of the Social Security Disability Law Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association, and is a member of the National Disability Lawyers Network. Dori is admitted to practice law in the State of Minnesota, and in the Federal District Courts of Minnesota, the Eastern District of Wisconsin, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. Dori has a B.A. in International Relations from Seattle Pacific University, an M.A. in Applied Ethics from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, and a J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School. During law school, Dori was co-director of the student chapter of the Minnesota Justice Foundation and the Student Mentor program, and an intern for both the Minneapolis City Attorneys’ Office – Civil Division and Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services.
Dori has been engaged with disability rights and social justice issues since 1992. Before becoming an attorney, Dori performed humanitarian work for mentally ill children in Brazil and Kyrgyzstan, and worked with young sex trafficking victims in southern India. Dori also directed the employment / community integration department of a large advocacy agency for intellectually disabled adults in her hometown of Portland, Oregon. Prior to joining Greeman Toomey, Dori clerked for a trial court judge in Stillwater, Minnesota and represented hundreds of employees and consumers at a mid-sized Minneapolis law firm. Dori also volunteers time to represent victims of domestic violence to file orders for protection and petitions for asylum.
Dori lives in Minneapolis with her husband, Dan, an employment attorney. In her spare time Dori enjoys cooking and gardening, and belongs to a Russian book club.
Jessica Ryker -Jessica is an associate attorney at Greeman Toomey, PLLC and is admitted to practice law in the State of Minnesota. She has a B.A. in Political Science and Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies from the University of Minnesota and a J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law. During law school, she was co-chair of Out!Law, William Mitchell’s LGBT organization, competed nationally in the Williams Institute Moot Court on Gender and Sexual Orientation Law, and interned with the Minnesota Civil Liberties Union, World Without Genocide, and the Minnesota Justice Foundation. She also taught Consitutional Law for a semester at a St. Paul high school through the Marshall Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project.
Jessica has contributed to the Minnesota Transgender Law manuals for the legal profession through the National Lawyer’s Guild and is publishing an article on transgender asylum law within the United States. In May 2012, she received OutFront Minnesota’s 25 Under 25 award for her work within the LGBT community. She continues to volunteer her time to providing services and resources to low-income and marginalized Minnesotans.
Jessica lives in Minneapolis with her partner, Malakai, and their two cats. In their free time, they follow politics, play board games, go fishing, and spend time with their friends and family.
Alexandra Platt - Alex is an associate attorney at Greeman Toomey, PLLC. She is admitted to practice law in the State of Minnesota and practices exclusively in the area of Social Security disability law.
Alex has a B.A. in Political Science from Saint Cloud State University and a J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School. During law school, she was a staff member on the University of Minnesota Law Review, won the “Best Brief” award in her first year legal writing class, and externed for the Honorable Robert A. Awsumb in Ramsey County. She also participated in the Innocence Project Clinic where she investigated claims of actual innocence made by inmates in Minnesota. Her volunteer experiences include clerking for the Stearns County Public Defender’s Office, the Federal Defender’s Office for the District of Minnesota, and the Children’s Law Center of Minnesota. She also worked at Tubman where she assisted victims of domestic violence in obtaining Orders for Protection and in family law matters. Prior to joining Greeman Toomey, Alex was a Fellow with the Ramsey County Public Defender’s Office where she represented juveniles in felony, gross misdemeanor, and misdemeanor criminal hearings.
Originally from northern Nevada, Alex currently resides in Minneapolis. In her spare time she enjoys watching the Minnesota Vikings and going to concerts.
SaRoi Brown – SaRoi is an associate attorney at Greeman Toomey, PLLC. She is admitted to practice law in the State of Minnesota and practices exclusively in the area of Social Security disability law.
SaRoi graduated summa cum laude from Winona State University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science Paralegal degree. She graduated cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law in 2011. SaRoi was a member and Assistant Editor on the William Mitchell Law Review and competed on the McGee Civil Rights Moot Court team. During law school, SaRoi worked as a law clerk at Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid in the Consumer unit and participated in the William Mitchell Legal Assistance for Minnesota Prisoners (LAMP) Reentry clinic as a student certified attorney assisting women reentering society from the Shakopee prison with family law matters. She also worked as a student certified attorney with the Ramsey County Public Defender’s Office doing felony and misdemeanor arraignment hearings as well as probation violation hearings. SaRoi volunteered through the Minnesota Justice Foundation with Chrysalis/Tubman and the Battered Women’s Legal Advocacy Project. She was a member and committee chair of the Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity in the Butler Chapter as a law student and is currently an Alumni relations member of the Twin Cities Alumni Chapter. During college, she worked as a Paralegal intern with the Winona County Attorney’s Office. She also worked for Home & Community Options as a Personal Care Assistant providing direct support and assistance to people with developmental, physical, and mental disabilities in an assisted living setting.
Prior to joining Greeman Toomey, SaRoi worked at Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid in two temporary Staff Attorney positions. She worked in the Consumer Unit assisting clients who have been victims of mortgage foreclosure scams and predatory lending, and counseling clients regarding bank servicing issues, loan modifications, and the foreclosure process. She also worked with the Housing Discrimination Law Project assisting clients with private and subsidized housing landlord/tenant issues, potential fair housing discrimination claims, eviction actions, and reasonable accommodation requests.
SaRoi grew up in southern Wisconsin and currently lives in Robbinsdale, Minnesota with her husband, Mike, a chef and restaurant owner. In their spare time, they enjoy going to movies and concerts as well as hanging out with family and friends.
Nathaniel R. Greene - Nate Greene is an of counsel attorney for Greeman Toomey, PLLC, and practices exclusively in the area of Social Security disability law. Nate is admitted to practice law in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Nate received his undergraduate degree in Business and Political Science from Bethel Universityin 2006, and received his Juris Doctor from Marquette University Law School in 2009. While at Marquette, he was awarded First Place in the Jenkins Moot Court Competition. Prior to joining Greeman Toomey, Nate practiced criminal defense at the Appelman Law Firm. During that time, Nate represented clients facing felony, gross misdemeanor, and misdemeanor charges. He has also worked in civil litigation and for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Nate lives in Prior Lake, Minnesota. He enjoys outdoor baseball, playing hockey, and volunteering at his church.
Steve Ford – Steve is an of counsel attorney for Greeman Toomey, PLLC.
Steve graduated cum laude from Bradley University before receiving his Law degree from Hamline University School of Law in 1990.
Steve has practiced Social Security law for over 20 years and has handled federal court cases for 13 years. He has argued multiple cases before both the Fifth and Eighth circuit courts of appeals.
Steve also worked for 8 years as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in Texas handling federal court law suits against the Social Security Administration.
Steve lives in St. Paul, MN. His hobbies include golfing, rock-climbing and cooking.
