Medicare Prescription Drug Program

The Medicare Prescription Drug Program is designed to provide extra assistance to those with limited resources. The extra help is estimated to be worth about $4,000 each year. If you qualify, Social Security may help pay for the monthly premiums, annual deductibles, and co-payments related to the Medical Prescription Drug program. You must be enrolled in a Medicare Prescription Drug plan to get this extra help. However, if you have Medicare and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Medicare and Medicaid, you are automatically qualified to receive the extra help. For others, you may qualify if:

• You reside in one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia;

• Your resources are limited to $13,440 for an individual or $26,860 for a married couple living together. This includes bank accounts, stocks and bonds but not your home, car or any life insurance policy; and

• Your annual income is limited to $17,505 for an individual or $23,595 for a married couple living together.
