The Social Security Administration recently named Rajive Mathur the new Chief Information Office (CIO).
Mathur, whose official title will be deputy commissioner for systems and CIO, is the former director of online services for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), where he helped promote certain tax products for the public.
Mathur replaces Rob Klopp who helped modernize aging infrastructure at Social Security. Klopp was a political appointee of the Obama Administration and stayed on until April after the new administration took office.
It will be Mathur’s partial responsibility to oversee Social Security’s $1.6 billion information technology budget for fiscal year 2017.
Trump Budget Proposal Likely To Take A Back Seat
When President Donald Trump released his budget proposal to Congress and the American people there were a lot of disturbing proposals related to not only Social Security, but also welfare programs that were in danger of being de-funded. It is not uncommon for a president’s budget proposal to receive little support from Congress, which has its own ideas about the budget, but with recent news of Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey, and Comey’s testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee June 8, it appears Trump’s budget proposal and all other legislative ambitions championed by Trump will have to take a backseat.

Social Security recently launched a new website and tool kit for educators to help teach students about Social Security, why it was created, and why it is important in their lives today and in the future. Understandably, many students across America have little knowledge of what Social Security is and why it is important for their future. This new tool is aimed at providing students an understanding of Social Security and to provide students a strong base on which to building their financial future.
