Social Security Extends Listings That Were Set To Expire

On May 21, 2020 Social Security issued information that it would be extending the listings of three of its impairment categories related to disability claims. Social Security’s listings of impairments are how Social Security determines if a disability claimant is disabled and meets the agency’s rules to be eligible for disability benefits. The three listings Social Security will be extending are Low Birth Weight and Failure to Thrive for children, Endocrine Disorders and Cancer (Malignant Neoplastic Disease). The extension of these listings, which were due to expire, means that Social Security will continue to evaluate these types of claim as they previous had been doing. Below is the official summary from the Federal Register.

We are extending the expiration dates of the following body systems in the Listing of Impairments (listings) in our regulations: Low Birth Weight and Failure to Thrive, Endocrine Disorders, and Cancer (Malignant Neoplastic Diseases). We are making no other revisions to these body systems in this final rule. This extension ensures that we will continue to have the criteria we need to evaluate impairments in the affected body systems at step three of the sequential evaluation processes for initial claims and continuing disability reviews.

DATES: This final rule is effective on
